Equitable Systems Design for individual learners

"Privilege isn’t about what you’ve gone through; it’s about what you haven’t had to go through. And right now, we are in a time that is calling on us to learn the stories that we don’t know."

Janaya Khan, social activist

Certificate programs

  • Challenge the status quo and transform communities and workplaces by learning more about equity, diversity and inclusion with an intercultural lens. The UBC Certificate programs in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and Intercultural Studies offer a deep, reflective and applicable suite of courses.

Micro-certificate programs

  • Learn how to engage in immediate, meaningful and collaborative action as racism surfaces in our own lives and in those of others around us. The courses in the UBC Micro-certificate in Anti-Racism and Diversity and Inclusion present opportunities to understand and work towards individual, interpersonal and systemic change.

Equitable Systems Design for Associates program

  • Gain practical experience by working alongside organizations interested in an equitable redesigning of their systems through the UBC Equitable Systems Design for Associates program (for graduates and alumni of our certificates and micro-certificate programs).

All of these programs are designed for both employers and employees who want to work effectively to transform their workplaces to be more equitable, safe and inclusive for all. You may have lived experiences as a member of a marginalized community, or you may be an ally hoping to engage in socially just and inclusive change within organizations. Most importantly, these programs are for you if you recognize that EDI work is ongoing and difficult, and that it requires critical examination of power and privilege in ourselves, our work environments and society.

Our courses and programs in equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism offer pathways to move away from optics and performative allyship, to effective and transformative action. By centering and amplifying the voices, lived experiences and perspectives of historically marginalized groups, the program focuses on collective solidarity and co-creation of justice-centered, equitable and inclusive communities and workplaces.

As you work toward establishing change and transformation in your organization, these programs support you in:

  • addressing issues of inequities, racism and injustice
  • recognizing the impact of white supremacy, power and privilege
  • developing an in-depth awareness of how these issues manifest in organizational policies, processes and culture.
