Student using XR.

Extended reality (XR) and gaming

Extended reality (XR), also known as cross reality, is an umbrella term for augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR). Applied in education, retail, medicine, engineering and design sectors, XR technology is also used heavily in gaming to create immersive experiences that are a blend of the physical and digital world. Like so many other evolving fields in technology, the demand for professionals with applicable skills in XR and/or gaming far outweighs the supply.

UBC Extended Learning has partnered with Circuit Stream, an industry leader in XR education, to offer a variety of project-based XR and gaming courses. Covering a range of topics and interests, from foundational AR/VR skills and UX best practices to video game development, design and storytelling, the courses are structured to help you upskill or reskill for career success.

All courses feature live online classes, daily office hours, hands-on assignments, opportunities to network and lifetime access to resources.
